NEHAWU KZN Picket At Provincial Budget Speech

Monday March 07, 2022

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in KwaZulu-Natal will convene a picket on Wednesday, 09 March 2022, during the presentation of the provincial budget speech by MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, in Pietermaritzburg.

The picket is convened to oppose and call for an immediate end to the austerity measures meted by the provincial treasury in the province which has resulted in a large number of unfilled vacant posts. Most departments are understaffed and this has an adverse effect on service delivery. Part of the issues which will also feature in the memorandum is the union's call for government to end outsourcing, PPPs and the immediate absorption of the Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs).

The union shall also use the picket to raise its anger on the recent Constitutional Court Judgement in the matter of Resolution 1 of 2018 that seeks to reserve the hard-won gains of workers in particular the right of collective bargaining.

The picket will take place as follows:

Date 09 March 2022
Time 11:00 am
Venue Royal Showgrounds, Pietermaritzburg
